Stephen Powers performs regularly throughout the region with a variety of ensembles. Often leading his own trio or quartet, Stephen has also shared the stage with Lee University saxophone professor Alan Wyatt and Summit Records artist Ken Watters and has recorded with Atlanta-based pianist Louis Heriveaux. He has played for Chattanooga’s Riverbend Festival, Nightfall, and he is a frequent performer at Barking Legs and The Woodshop, two premier music venues in town.

Stephen received his Bachelor of the Arts in Jazz Performance from the University of New Orleans, where he studied under guitar behemoth Steve Masakowski and virtuoso saxophonist Ed Petersen. While pursuing his education, Stephen had the additional opportunity to play with jazz and funk groups around New Orleans at popular spots such as the Maison Frenchmen, as well as for the New Orleans French Quarter Festival and the Jazz Education Network’s national conference.

Stephen enjoys teaching a range of musical styles to students of all ages and skill levels, focusing particularly on building a strong foundation of musicianship and musical literacy.
