Dr. Ronda Benson Ford is currently an instructor of flute at Shorter University in Rome, GA and teaches flute, recorder, and piano for the Chattanooga Music Academy at Northside Presbyterian Church.
Ronda is the principal flutist with the Scenic City Community Orchestra in Chattanooga and was a member of the Topeka Symphony Orchestra in Kansas for eight years. She has toured internationally with the International Flute Orchestra to Japan, Italy, and Hungary. Ronda has had articles published in the peer reviewed Flutist Quarterly journal and Flute Talk magazine. She has served on the faculties of the Cadek Conservatory of Music, University of TN at Chattanooga, Lee University, Western Colorado University, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, National American University, Truman State University, Park University, Missouri Western State University, Kansas City Kansas Community College, and Parkland College.
She has performed at National Flute Association Conventions, Regional Flute Festivals, and College Music Society regional conferences. Ronda has been a participant twice at the Galway Flute Institute where she performed for Lady Jeanne Galway and Nicola Mazzanti. She has also performed in masterclasses for Göran Marcusson, Walfrid Kujala, Kathryn Lukas, Gary Schocker, and Louis Moyse.
Ronda’s desire to continue to learn and hone her skills as a flutist and teachert led her to start an Artist Diploma in Flute at the University of Memphis during the Fall of 2024 where she is currently studying with Elise Blatchford. Other teachers include Dr. John Bailey, Dr. Danilo Mezzadri, Kyril Magg, Alexander Murray, Max Schoenfeld, and Dr. Carolyn Brown.
Ronda collaborates with many other musicians and frequently performs compositions that were commissioned by her. Air and Strings flute and guitar duo presented four concerts during the Spring of 2025. During the summers of 2022-2024, she had a recital series with the B Sharp Chamber Trio for flute, bassoon, and piano. In the summer of 2024, they were chosen as an ensemble for the Fifteen Minutes of Fame project which is 15 one-minute works by different composers written for a specific performer or ensemble. She was a member of the cutting-edge chamber ensemble Fuze Trio which consisted of flute, trumpet, and piano. In January 2020 they were an Ensemble-in-Residence at East Carolina University as part of the North Carolina NewMusic Initiative. Ronda has taught a wide variety of classes including Flute Literature, Flute Choir, Music Theory I-IV, Music Theory for non-majors, Aural Skills I-IV, Music History, Beginning Piano, and Music Appreciation. Ronda has very little free time with her teaching and performing schedule, but when she does have free time, she enjoys baking and spending time in Chattanooga, TN out short outdoor excursions with her husband Brian and their two dogs Lily and Howie.
